Robust atom-photon gate for quantum information processing
Physical Review A (2024)
In this paper, researchers suggest a method for performing two-qubit operations between 1) a photon and 2) an atom trapped in a cavity. The interaction between the two is mediated by a cavity and a type of interferometer called a Mach-Zehnder interferometer. In the setup, the ground and excited states of the atom in the cavity are doubly degenerate: two states in each energy level participate in the interaction with the flying photon.
The researchers analyzed potential errors in this gate setup and demonstrated that the setup is more resilient to experimental errors compared to previous methods, resulting in higher fidelity.
The group’s work will help improve the development of technologies for quantum computing and communication.
