Achievable rates for concatenated square Gottesman-Kitaev-Preskill codes
PRX Quantum (2025)
GKP quantum error-correcting codes are known to work extremely well for certain types of noise, but until now they were proven to reach the best possible performance only at a few specific noise levels.
In a new paper, researchers show how to make them optimal for all noise strengths by combining GKP with other encoding methods, proving they can always reach the channel’s capacity and offering new ways to build better GKP lattices.
The paper’s authors are Mahadevan Subramanian, Guo Zheng and Liang Jiang, who conducted their work at the University of Chicago.
