Fault-tolerant operation of bosonic qubits with discrete-variable ancillae
Physical Review X (2024)
A common problem with bosonic qubits is the need for discrete-variable ancillae, which are extra qubits used to help control and correct the main qubits but often introduce noise.
As detailed in this paper, scientists leverage ancilla-assisted bosonic operations to develop a new framework that combines bosonic quantum error correction with advanced quantum control techniques. The resulting system is highly fault-tolerant.
The team’s approach requires only simple hardware configurations achievable with current technology. It enhances the efficiency and scalability of quantum computers, bringing them closer to practical, real-world applications.
